Japan Exchange Programme

Mayflower Secondary School has established a deep and sustaining relationship with a school in Hiroshima Prefecture, Japan. We have been conducting this exchange programme with them for over 15 years.

This year, in August, a group of Japanese students visited our school. They spent a day with our students. In December, our students will visit them.



















P.E. lesson was enjoyable. The language of sport is universal!
















It can also foster deeper relationships.

















The students were given a unique opportunity to take part in outdoor activities in our tropical climate.

Outing to Kukup Fishing Farm

A day trip to Kukup, West Malaysia, was organised for the staff of Mayflower Secondary School on the 5h of July. The aims of this trip were as follows:

1. to promote bonding among staff and family members
2. to promote a cosmopolitan mindset through experiencing and appreciating the rich diversity of cultures of Malaysia.



















The first stop was at a petwer factory .

Here the tour guide explained how petwer is manufactured.

Pewter is a metal alloy , consisting of 85 and 99 percent tin , with the remainder consisting of copper and antimony , acting as hardeners.

Next,we visited a fruit farm where we were given an opportunity to taste various local fruit.
(Here, the farmer explained to Mr Fam and his daughter, the various types of fruit that can be found in his farm.)



















And of course we even had the opportunity to eat our favourate fruit, the durian!

After a good lunch, we took a boat to visit the fish farm.

Later we had the chance to explore the Chinese fishing village of Kukup.

It was an enjoyable trip and it gave us the opportunity to get to know our colleagues and their family members better.

GP Programme to Thailand 2008

In June, a group of upper secondary Normal Technical students took part in the Globalization Partnership Programme to Thailand.

The objectives of this GP Thailand Programmes are:

1. To plant the seed of entrepreneurship in our students.
2. To expose our pupils to the culture of an Asian country other than Singapore.
3. To provide an opportunity for our Normal (Academic/Technical) students to travel to another country.

Getting a first hand experience of the Thai culture

Globalisation Partnership (GP) Programme

The Globalization Partnership Programme (GP) is an initiative driven by the Humanities Department and the N.E committee to prepare students for a globalised world. In order to prepare for their visit to Vietnam in June, four teachers went on a recce trip in March and decided to do some CIP at the same time.







Before they embarked on this journey, the office staff help in the collection of gifts for the home. Here, Sylvian Tan, a CSO, is busy preparing some gifts for the children's home.

The next day, the teachers visited a hospital where victims of Agent Orange are housed. The teachers were touched by the warmth that these children showed inspite of their conditions.

The students are now preparing for their trip to Vietnam in June.

Understanding our neighbour

The Humanities Department organised a study tour for our Sec 5 Normal Academic students to provide a deeper understanding of culture of our closest neighbour Malaysia.

They first visited a rural area in South Johore where they learnt about the farming system. Here, the guide was explaining the process of growing pineapple.

A local villager was kind enough to show the student how to play a local instrument.

The guide showed the students the various product that can be made from oil palm.

They visited Malaysia in a historical moment when there was going to be a national election the next day.Some of the students stayed up to watch the election news.

The next day, the students visited St Paul hill. Here they took the opportunity to do a survey, asking tourist the reason for visiting Malacca.


It was an enriching experience as students were given a chance to practise their oral communication skills as well as the chance to speak to visitors from various countries.

The mother tongue department organised a tour to Taiwan together with Zaobao.

Students were given the opportunity to learnn about the culture of Taiwan.

The students also visited 921 Earthquake Museum — a tribute to the invincible human spirit.

This unique museum is built within the ruins of Guangfu﹝光復﹞ Junior High School in the Wufong﹝霧峰﹞ Township of Taichung﹝台中﹞.

The school’s demolished buildings not only help visitors observe and contemplate the power of an earthquake, but the broken parts of the building have also been skillfully used as effective teaching aids

The students were also provided with an opportunity to try their hand at growing rice.

Later, the students learnt how to make a bamboo pipe.

Scouts service learning@Riau Islands

The Scout Group of Mayflower Secondary School spent the June holiday at the Riau Islands.

Mr Gana was there with the scout troop.

The students helped in building a new facilities for a school.

They even taught the students.

Japan Exchange Programme 2006

The 2006 Japan Exchange Programme saw a group of teachers and students from Japan visiting Mayflower Secondary on the 23rd of August 2006.










Gifts were exchanged between our principal Mrs Lim and the official from Japan.

Students from Japan put up an interesting programme for our students.

Our students also put up a dance for the studnets.
